Picture this: I spent over a decade working in the nonprofit sector, surrounded by individuals brimming with fantastic ideas, dreams, and a burning desire to change the world for the better. But there was a common stumbling block we all faced – a lack of time to focus on the nitty-gritty details and create the processes that would make our ideas a reality. The need for such support was glaringly obvious, and it became the seed for my entrepreneurial journey.
My love for the intersection of the natural world and the built environment was a driving force. I found immense satisfaction in working on projects that aimed to create a harmonious coexistence between humans and the planet we call home. Yet, as much as I cherished this work, the nonprofit sector was far from the 9-to-5 job I had once dreamt of. The passionate pursuit of a better world often came at the cost of exhaustion from overwork. The equation didn’t add up, and I found myself yearning for a change.
One of my major sources of frustration was the constant need to build the ship while sailing it. This is a common dilemma in the nonprofit sector – a passionate vision, a dedicated team, limited resources, and a never-ending cycle of firefighting. The desire to make a significant impact was always overshadowed by the struggle to keep the organizational ship afloat.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate. My partner has a stable job, and I managed to pay off my largest student loan. This financial stability, along with a burning desire to make a difference, gave me the courage to take the leap I never thought I would. It was time to chart a new course.
Starting my own business, Sage Growth Solutions, became the answer. It has been a leap of faith, driven by a deep-seated belief that I can make a meaningful difference, not just for one organization but for many. I am no longer confined to a single organization and can collaborate with a wide array of community and environmental organizations. The prospect of working on different projects with each new client is exhilarating. Each new engagement allows me to dive headfirst into a specific environmental and community issue to use my skills to help these organizations move their mission forward.
For me, it’s more than just business; it’s a calling. My calling is to be of service to others, to make a positive impact on our environment and the community where I live, and to help those who are passionately dedicated to these causes. Sage Growth Solutions is not just a company; it’s a means to fulfill that calling. It’s about creating the processes, the structure, and the support that I wish I had. It’s about making it easier for these passionate individuals to focus on their visions and create the change they want to see in the world.
Starting my own business was a leap toward fulfilling my passion and my calling. With Sage Growth Solutions, I’m not just building a business; I’m building a bridge between great ideas and tangible, positive change in the world. And that, for me, is the most fulfilling journey of all.
